Icarus

To seek the endless sky and ever soar;
a longing to survey the boundless sea
and break like waves of joy upon the shore—

In every father's son, within his core
There lies this wish, and earnest is his plea
to seek the endless sky and ever soar.

Like Icarus, the sun he does ignore;
his heart and wings of wax will set him free,
and break like waves of life upon the shore.

When does the boy forego his youth, and for
a maid or wealth deny his childish glee?
To search the endless sky and ever soar

are childish dreams, are foolish, ancient lore.
Instead, his dreams are modern currency,
which break like waves of dust upon the shore.

Our Icarus has fall’n. He is no more—
his spirit is released unto the sea
to seek the endless sky and ever soar,
and break like endless waves upon the shore.
