PoetryProdigal Heart The following poems were arranged and published in a chapbook titled Prodigal Heart. Each was written in the spring, autumn, and winter of 2008, with the exception of Stones, which was written Memorial Day 2006. In the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), there is a play on words more subtle in the English than the Greek translation. "Prodigal Son" refers to the son who squanders all he has been given: money, love, and friendship. Less apparently, however, it also refers to the Son whose love is given so freely and in abundance that some people might call it squander; in this parable, the Son is symbolized by the father. The chapbook Prodigal Heart is a lifetime progression of a son who has done both.
